Survey 'o the web...

The Eagles just opened an outlet store in Lancaster. I'll have to ask my parents to make a trip for me ...

Jeremy Shlockey might need surgery on his foot? Poor guy. Hope it doesn't impead his ability to get hammered on saturdays ...

Tim Couch a Packer? Nice idea, but it won't work: Couch being Favre's heir, I mean. Couch is a decent quarterback in a Kerry Collins just-don't-ask-me-to-win-the-game sort of way.

Just saw this: Chris Mortensen thought '03 was Reid's best season. I'm inclined to agree, although the post-Arizona portion of '02 was impressive ...

Noticed that I haven't been posting much? I've been hard at work on A Citizen's blog and studing for the bar exam and finding a job and helping my fiancee plan our wedding ... so yeah, my plate is sort of full. I'll put my two cents in during August and then you can count on finding me in the thick of things after I get back from my Hawaii honeymoon on the 19th of September ... It is going to be a good year, my friends.

Our Friends in Tampa...

If anyone gets a chance please check out Philly of the South, an Eagles fan club down there in sunny Tampa Bay, Florida. It is a terrific site devoted to the beachhead the Eagles have down there in Buccaneers-land. I feel a special kinship with them, blogging for my team far from home.

Memo to Bill Parcells: Get To Your Local Chapter of the Anti-Defamation League

So Parcells made a racial slur towards the Japanese. Reading the Cowboys I-don’t-really-mean-it-but-I’ll-say-it-god-forbid-we lose-any-fans apology I saw the dreaded: “I apologize to anyone who may have been offended.”

I love when people say: “I apologize to anyone who may have been offended.” Do you know what they are actually saying? A: They don’t really mean it. It is a nice, seemingly sincere way of brushing off the incident without taking responsibility for their conduct and quietly implying that anyone who was offended is a prissy baby.

Free Agency...

Peter King thinks that the Eagles' L.J. Smith is going to have a terrific year with T.O. split wide of him. Didn't I say that a few weeks ago?

King also lists the available free agents: the Steelers Jason Gildon would be a terrific pickup for the Iggles. He's a good player and he could help against the run.

-An intriguing pickup: Eddie George. Why not? He'd give the Eagles the third tailback that they need, and he's love to work in the Eagles system. Eddie George is the kind of guy who shows up to win, and I bet that he'd take a little less money to get back to the Super Bowl.

signing: Kurt Warner in New York? It is not enough that the poor guy is a Christian playing in Sodom & Gomorrah, but he has to play for the Giants?

-Vinny in Dallas? I have the idea of the Cowboys being led by a competent QB, so I hate that signing...

-Jeff Blake? Sheesh! ... I mean, what are they thinking? I just don't get it. It isn't like Blake is a proven winner: the guy flopped everywhere he's been: Baltimore, Cincinnati, New Orleans ... I just don't get it. Give Andy Hall a chance, Andy!

CNNSI's Duane Cross sees a Miami-Minnesota Super Bowl. I don't think so, Tim. I think the Vikings will be a little better in '04, but I don't see it. I'd give the edge to the Falcons or Buccaneers or Seahawks to challenge the Eagles and Rams for the top slots in the conference. Randy Moss? Dante Culpepper? I don't see it. Too streaky. Too inconsistent.

And Miami? Never. I like AJ Feeley, but he's stepping into a mess down there. That team can run, but it can't stretch the field. And they were over-rated on defense. The Patriots will win the AFC East in 2004, like they always do, because they are tougher and the Patriots staff has figured out how to win with a cheap/cost-effective system that maximizes players talents. The Dolphins spend too much and are afflicted by arrogance. Cross does make a cogent point about how the losses of Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent hurt, but Miami and Minnesota? Please.

Survey of the News, Part II!

A few more odds 'n ends:

July 1 until the Eagles get their ESPN.com offseason overview.

The Jets Manhattan Stadium features solar tubes and wind turbines for power. Wow. I'm impressed by the ecofriendly design: I'm probably the rare pro-environment football fan, but I think that most NFL fans will be impressed by the Jets efforts to build a ecofriendly stadium over there on Manhattan Isle.

Been noticing a lot more Duce Staley #22 jerseys popping up in local (I'm in Pittsburgh) sporting goods stores. Nice to see the locals start to take to our hero, but lots of Stillers fans are still wedded to Bettis and are probably still a little resentful that the Steelers had to raid the Eagles for talent.

The jersey looks good too: I need to buy a black one ...

Update

Just a quick update ... Sorry I haven't posted, but there just hasn't been much activity worthy of comment aside from noting that the Eagles decision to sign Jeff Blake is a bad, bad idea.

1) give Andy Hall a shot, Andy...
2) Blake is a journeyman QB who can't hold the starting job down.

Couldn't we spend that cap money on a running back or a corner?

Anyway, I've been hard at work on A Citizen's Blog, and I am busy looking for a job and studying for the bar exam. When events warrant, I'll be back. 'Til then, peace out, Iggles fans!
